En 2008, les anémies ferriprives affectaient 81 % des enfants de moins de 5 ans et 59 % des femmes en âge de reproduction dans le nord du pays, ainsi que 75 % des enfants de moins de 5 ans et 68 % des femmes en âge de reproduction à Abidjan.
